The next several years, she worked as a dispatcher for an answering service, as a homemaker, waitress, and a bus driver transporting children to public and private school.  She raised her daughters in Texas and moved to Wyoming in 2015. Her greatest accomplishment above all was becoming a Correctional Officer for the Wyoming Women’s Center. She worked for WWC for 7.5 years rising to the rank of Corporal. She was known as Corporal Barndt.

Melanie had a very kind and compassionate heart and put others’ interests ahead of her own. She loved her girls and John with all of her being and gave her love and time to her grandsons. She could make anyone smile and loved animals. Family was very important to her. Melanie was funny and entertaining and enjoyed many genres of music. She enjoyed traveling to visit Aleshia at different locations while she was serving in the Air Force. Melanie is very bright and excelled in academics and assignments.
